Derek Chum LLB is a consultant and the VP of Growth and Strategy with Indigenous Community Engagement. Derek was a corporate and commercial lawyer for 11 years providing business and project advice to Indigenous communities and enterprises across Ontario. As a long-time resident of Toronto Derek is an active member in the Indigenous community and serves on the board of Unity Health which operates three hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area. Derek is also a board member of Miziwe Biik Development Corporation which provides affordable housing opportunities in Toronto. He currently serves as chair of the Moose Cree Group of Companies, the business arm of the Moose Cree First Nation, which has forestry, real estate, mining services, tourism and hotel operations. He was also the Chair of Five Nations Energy Inc., the first Indigenous-owned and operated transmission line in Ontario. Derek was also the President/CEO of Amisk Kodim Corporation which structured the Indigenous contracting opportunities for the $2.5 billion Lower Mattagami River Project, a partnership between Moose Cree First Nation and Ontario Power Generation. His recent leadership role as the Vice President of Indigenous Relations at Hydro One involved a range of responsibilities from Indigenous engagement strategy, negotiations, and integrating the Indigenous Relations group into Hydro One operations.
