Emily Olson – Vale Base Metals

Emily oversees the development and execution of Vale Base Metal’s sustainability, government relations, and communications strategies and plays a pivotal role in positioning the standalone business as a leading global transition metals company.

Emily has nearly 20 years of experience in senior leadership roles with global mining companies. Most recently, she served as Vice President for Global Strategic Relations with Freeport-McMoRan, responsible for driving global strategic initiatives inclusive of governments, partners, and various external organizations, and integrating global advocacy and communications strategy.

Prior to Freeport, Emily was Senior Vice President for Europe and Russia at BP plc, where she led execution of the company’s sustainability strategy, from renewables to new ventures and partnerships, and helped shape on climate strategy. Over nearly 15 years at BP, she held key senior positions in Washington DC, Houston, and London, including Vice President of BP’s US$40 billion Southern Gas Corridor and Chief of Staff to the Deputy CEO as well as to the Chairman of the Board.
